Reception is where reading starts: one letter sound at a time, then blending sounds into words, then first tricky words and short stories.
The 6 Reception phonics levels
Level 1 teaches s, a, t, p, i, n, m and d one letter per lesson, with a picture, the sound, letter tracing and a quick review after every two letters. Later levels add the rest of the single letters, the two- and three-letter sounds like sh, ch, ai and igh, and stories children can read with the sounds they know.
For children aged 4 to 5. Levels follow the school year, one per half term, and every level is open, so you can move back or ahead whenever you like.
